Forum History

Regional Government Forum is a conference organised in Szczecin since 2004. The enterprise's initiator is Adam Szewczuk PhD, Head of Public Finance Department at Szczecin University's Faculty of Management and Economics of Services.

In 2007, as a result of signing the Agreement on the joint organisation of Regional Government Forum a team of organisers was established comprising of: Marshal of the Westpomeranian Region, President of the City of Szczecin and the Rector of the University of Szczecin.

Two years later, the Eastern Studies Institute Foundation in Warsaw as well as the Polish-German Cooperation Foundation joined the ranks of the organisers, which permitted the widening of the Forum’s scope and elevated it to an international status.

VI Regional Government Forum (8-9 April 2010) drew almost 300 participants – representatives of all levels of public administration as well as the scientific and business communities from Poland and, for the first time, Germany and Ukraine, who held creative discussions on the most pressing territorial regional government issues and significance for regional development.

On 20-21 June 2011 the VII Regional Government Forum took place in Szczecin, under the patronage of Jerzy Buzek - President of the European Parliament. The conference was opened by honorary guest Janusz Lewandowski – European Budget and Financial Programming Commissioner, who outlined the objectives of the new European Union financial perspective to the participants. Apart from the strong representation of the Polish regional government communities and academic centres, the conference was also attended by representatives of regional governments, higher institutions and universities from Germany, Ukraine, Czech Republic, Hungary, Sweden and Slovakia.

Currently preparations for the VIII Regional Government Forum in 2012 are underway.
