For the fourth year running, Uznam Island became a meeting place for business and top politics. Held on 25-27 April in Świnoujście and Heringsdorf, the Baltic Business Forum 2012 once again attracted both national and foreign elites.

On 19th April three new companies received certificates of membership of the Scandinavian-Polish Chamber of Commerce. One of them was Eltwin Sp. z o.o., a Danish producer of electronic goods, encouraged to invest in Szczecin by the Investors’ Assistance Center in November 2010.

The terrain of the Gryfia Shipyard in Szczecin will become home to a new innovative off-shore plant, i.e. one associated with the production of bulk steel constructions for the maritime power engineering sector. The plant will produce the foundations for maritime wind power plants. The contract, which was signed on 2 April of this year in Warsaw, covers the realisation of the undertaking through the joint venture of the following three companies: the German company Bilfinger Berger, the Gdynia CRIST Shipyard, and the MARS Closed Investment Fund, owned by the Industrial Development Agency (IDA).

Thanks to the international conference of the Baltic Business Forum, for three days (25 to 27 April 2012) Świnoujście will become the European economic capital for the fourth time. The details of this prestigious assembly of European politicians, experts and businessmen were discussed during a press conference by Olgierd Geblewicz, Prof. Dariusz Rosati, Jacek Piechota and Dariusz Więcaszek.

The Garo company is the first investor to start its operations within the Special Economic Zone Euro-Park Mielec in Szczecin. The celebration to mark the granting of the first permit to operate in the special economic zone was held on 30th March in the Radisson Blu hotel in Szczecin.

MAX Trailer is a new brand under which the Belgian semitrailer producer – Faymonville – will manufacture fully-assembled specialized trailers. As part of a reinvestment, 5 million Euro will be spent on the construction of a new plant, which will provide employment to 36 people in the first year of its operation, with the target level of employment being estimated at as much as 150.

Cutting-edge technologies come once again to the High Technologies Industrial Park in Stargard Szczeciński. Tognum MTU, a leading engine producer, is building its plant there, planning to employ 220 people for a start. The investor’s plans have been officially announced today (15.03.2012) in Warsaw, in the presence of the Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to Poland and the Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Poland.

The Westpomeranian Region and Szczecin have marked their presence on the national stand at the CeBIT 2012 International Trade Fair. During 6-10 March 2012, Hannover (Germany) hosted modern technology producers and innovators from all over the world. The Polish exhibition was sponsored by the Ministry of the Economy.

In mid-February, a representative of the Westpomeranian Investors’ Assistance Center participated in an investment mission to India, organised by the Polish Information and Foreign Investment Agency. The “country of coriander” was also visited by the representatives of Łódź, Lublin, Białystok, and Rzeszów, and the special economic zones of Mielec, Łódź, and Tarnobrzeg.

There had been a lot of talking about this project for at least 5 years before the decision about its execution was taken. The tunnel connecting the northern lands of Germany with the southern coast of Denmark will certainly be one of the largest investments of this type in the world. Its construction starts in two years’ time.

Imposing – this is the best description of Cargotec, a company based in Stargard. The journalists from regional media who visited the plant’s seat on the 3^rd of February became personally convinced of it. At the end of the visit they made a reconnaissance around the Szczecin port where the largest machines produced in Cargotec Stargard – Kalmar stacking cranes for handling containers are prepared for expedition on the DB Port Container Wharf.

In the middle of December last year, Jolanta Kielmas – a representative of the Investors’ Assistance Center together with Andrzej Karabon – director of the Szczecin branch of the Industrial Development Agency, went to Gnosjo (Sweden) to convince the board and the owner of Swedish Garo AB Lars Svensson to invest in our region. They were successful.
